Data Source Undefined in multi-source IDT dfx - connection issues

Hi,

 

I have an issue in which my IDT universe seems to have lost the link between the joins and tables in the data layer and the connection. This initially started after I renamed the data layer and business layers. I have tried recreating the connection and fixing it in the data layer, nothing seems to work.

 

Under the data foundation option in the data layer, the joins and table are listed under 'Data Source  Undefined'. However the correct connection exists and this has the same name as always - and this name is referenced in the joins and tables.

 

If I try to view data in table then I get an error message - Data source cannot be null

If I select a table under the data foundation table list I get a java.lang.NullPointerException error message.

If I try to insert a table and get an "insert tables" error message

The connection is working in the sense that I can see the databases and tables, and each if these appears with a green tick if it exists in the data layer.

 

Our external support could not help so I have a call raised with SAP but it could take a while to get a response. Does anyone knows how to resolve or even troubleshoot this?

Error after importing a Universe in UDT 4.1

Hi Gurus,  We are migrating from SAP Business Objects 3.1 to 4.1 and testing Universe in UDT 4.1.  On importing one of our Universe, we get an error message -

 

"Exception: DBD, [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string.State: 22007". 

 

How can what steps can we take to investigate and resolve it.

BOE 4.1 sp2

 

Information Design Tool 4.1

Build: 14.1.2.1121

Version: 4.1 Support Pack 2

 

Datasource:   Oracle 11i

 

I have an ODBC connection (both 32 and 64bit) defined to a Lawson accounting system database. 

 

In Information Design tool, I can bring in several of the tables, but there is one particular table ( POVAGRMTLN) that as soon as I add it, I can no longer save the universe.  I get the following error.

 

Failed to execute runnable (java.lang.RuntimeException: An invalid XML characer (Unicode: 0xdf00_ was found in the element content: )

 

This happens on both Single Source and MultiSource Universes.

 

I can repeat the steps in Universe Design tool and can add that table, save the universe, publish it, and write a Webi off it. 

 

Any ideas?

BO Condition in a derived table

Hi everyone,

When I try to create a condition in the derived table "Der_Tab_SS" (derived from Tab_SS) writing into the condition area "Der_Tab_SS"."ZFISCALWEEK" != '0' knowing that ZFISCALWEEK is a char, I get into the error message Exception, DBD, ORA-00904: "Der_Tab_SS"."ZFISCALWEEK" not valid identifier.

 

But the table and the fileds are correctly existing!

 

Which mistake am I doing? Can someone kindly help?

IDT generating group by on some dimensions, not others

Hi,

 

I started running into a problem yesterday with a newer universe I created.  I have a measure for count of account number with a sum projection (among other measures) and many different dimensions.

 

Yesterday I created a webi report with account count (the measure) and a diagnosis code dimension.  There were no problems.  Then I added in visit end fiscal year (representing the account end date fiscal year).  I got the generic "[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Statement(s) could not be prepared."

 

I went back into IDT and created a query there and I get the same results.  However, if I remove the visit end fiscal year dimension and add visit start month, the query runs fine.

 

I discovered that, with certain dimensions, the sql that is generating is not including the "group by" for the dimensions. 

 

Has anyone ever seen this before? Why does it work with some dimensions and not others?

My question is a simple one: How can publish it as a secure connection? What distinguish the secure? In what moment IDT considers the connection secure?

IDT Unable to Insert Relational Connection

Hi all,

 

I am using IDT to create a universe and followed the steps in the following link. http://scn.sap.com/thread/3167968

 

The reason we want to create the universe is to be able to connect to it with BOBJ Explorer.

 

At step 5, it says to "Insert Relational Connection" and when I try to do this, the option is greyed out (see below screen shot). I am logged into the correct repository. Is it possible I don't have the correct security rights to perform this task? If so, what rights do I need? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

What questions to ask when getting Knowledge Transfer of Universes

Hello,

 

I have recently started learning SAP Business Objects. I had an issue, that one of my teammates who used to work on SAP Business Objects decided to leave the company next week with a short notice. So my team wanted me to takeover all his work which includes creating Universes, Webi Reports, etc.

What Questions should I ask him to so that I can understand the Universes & WebI Reports? If I can understand the universes, I can atleast try to figure out & Create the reports. Please help me here.

 

Questions that I am planning will be something like this:

Can you explain briefly about the sales universe you created. Why did we created & for which kind of reports do we use this universe?

Where are we pulling the tables from. I mean what is the source for this universe? , etc.

 

Please provide me more ideas of what to ask about the universe so that I can understand better.

 

 

FYI,

- We are currently using SAP BO 4.1 but he has created the universes using SAP BO 3.1

- We have around 10 complex Universes with 5 - 8 contexts in each universes & we have around 30 reports built using these universes.

- There is not even a single document created by him related to Universes.

 

 

Please help me in this regard & give me with your valuable suggestions.

SAS Connection with BO

Hi Guys,

 

I have a query that is generated from SAS Enterprise Guide 5.1. Right now, the query is exported from SAS to Access and a database is created in MS Access 2007. There are only 2 tables in the Access database. A report is then generated in Excel using the Access Database. Could anyone please suggest the possible ways to create a report from the SAS query in Business Objects 4.1 Web Intelligence or Crystal Reports ? I would prefer web intelligence. Thanks.

Creating hyperlinks in Webi

Hello,

Can anyone please give me the steps for including hyperlink in WEBI Report to navigate from one report to another.

I am not able to see the option for "hyperlinks with documents" when I select the column and right clk on it.

I am using WEBI 4.0.

Using NOLOCK in IDT universe

Hello Experts,

 

I have learned from this link that to set the NOLOCK as default we need to SET TRANSACTION ISOLOLATION LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED.

Also as specified in the SAP note # 1186745 I need to change sqlsrv.sbo file.

 

However the requirement is such that we dont want to do it as global setting.

While reading through I got to know we can do it using custom parameter in connection properties(using ConnectInit).

Can anyone please confirm how to do it as I have never set the custom parameter before.

Hi All,

 

Please suggest what I should do

 

I have  to install SAP Bi 4.1 SP2  server on window 2008R2 server .


Setup is running fine but in setup sequence  one wizard UI is not showing like :-


Configure destination folder





Apart form this all setup steps  is showing correctly .


i need to install server in D:\Drive in place of default C:\Drive but by  default this window(<Configure destination folder>) is not showing in installer


Please see attachment  in which you will see the missing setup UI in red circle <Missing_setup.png>

Cardinality issue in IDT

Hello Friends,

I need your help in two aspects of cardinality in the SAP Information Design Tool.

 

1. Suppose if the SAP Information Design Tool is detecting N:N cardinality but if I set it N:1 cardinality manually. Will I face any data issues in the webi reports?

 

2. If I didn't set any cardinality, I just joined the universe tables and exported to the repository without setting the cardinality.Will I face any data issues in the webi reports?

 

Can you please answer my above questions quickly.

Experts need your help.
 
We are using BO 4.1 SP04 FixPack4.4. We have a multi-source universe and single source universe. database is SQL server 2012
 
We have a scenario, where for one object we have to use case statement based on a condition and give value accordingly.
 
my objects are defined as below;
 
object => A - Measure - sum(bill_amt) - projection none
object => B - Measure - Max(adv_amt) - projection none
object => C - Dimension - Trn_Code
object => D - Measure - IfElse(C = 'A', B, A)
 
object D is is not getting validated by giving error
 
Variable 'Table__1.Trn_Code' is invalid in the SELECT list/HAVING clause because it is not contained in an aggregate function and there is no GROUP BY clause
 
How do we resolve this. Is any of the object being defined wrongly? When I remove 'sum' and 'max' from the object it works fine but result are not correct.
 
Please advice how do we fix this.

Hi All,

Access database on BO Server

Hi Guys,

 

Could anyone please advise me how I can put a Microsoft Access 2007 database on the BO Server, so that I can create a Universe out of it in Universe Design Tool (UDT) 4.1 ? The database contains Production data and is stored in the user's Shared Drive. It was created by exporting a Data-Set from SAS Enterprise Guide 5.1. Thanks.
